Frequently asked questions

How do I know if I should consider a psychological evaluation for myself or my child?

A psychological evaluation can be helpful for you (adult 18 years or older) if you are struggling with:

  • Attention/Concentration
  • Fluctuating Moods
  • Anxiety
  • Major Life Stressors and/or have other symptoms that interfere with your ability to function effectively in your daily life.

We will ask you various questions during a clinical interview to learn more about you and determine what testing is appropriate and necessary.

A psychological evaluation can be helpful for your child if they are struggling with:

  • Paying attention/being hyperactive at school and home
  • Behavioral issues at home or school
  • History of trauma
  • Learning Difficulties
  • Language Difficulties
  • Keeping up with their peers academically
  • Traumatic brain injury/concussions

We will conduct a thorough evaluation to see if the endorsed symptoms are consistent with a specific mental health diagnosis. We will explain our testing process, findings, and recommendations for next steps (e.g. school accommodations, therapy referrals, psychiatry referrals, workplace accommodations), as well as provide a written report.

What is the benefit of a psychological evaluation?

A psychological evaluation allows for a licensed professional to collect information about what you are experiencing in your daily life and determine if the symptoms you describe meet criteria for a mental health diagnosis. If so, we can provide you information on this diagnosis, individualized treatment recommendations, accommodation recommendations, appropriate next steps, and answer any questions you may have. Having answers and knowing that you are not alone may help provide peace of mind.

Do we meet in-person or virtually for the evaluation?

We offer both in-person and virtual meetings depending on your preference and what is needed/required for each individual evaluation. We will discuss this in more detail with you if you decide to move forward with us.

How much does an evaluation cost?

Please see our VIDA Clinicians page to see rates for each of our licensed professionals.

What type of payment do you accept?

We accept major credit cards through our secure, HIPAA-compliant platform. We accept half of the full payment as a deposit before your initial clinical interview. The remainder must be paid before we provide you individualized, culturally-sensitive feedback and the completed written report.

For attorneys, we have a retainer agreement and fee schedule we will provide you after our initial consultation call. Please also see the VIDA Clinicians page for a rate overview for each clinician.

Do you accept insurance?

No, we do not accept insurance at this time.

How can psychologists help attorneys with their cases?

Psychologists can help attorneys determine if:

  • Their client qualifies for mental health diversion.
  • Their client is experiencing mental health symptoms that interfere with their ability to proceed with their case.
  • Their client was unable to know the nature or quality of their actions at the time of the alleged offence due to mental disease or defect (Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity).
  • Their client lives with a mental health diagnosis and how that impacts them.
  • Their client is experiencing symptoms of Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) or Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and how that impacts them/their case.
  • Their client is experiencing cognitive deficits and how that impacts them.

What is forensic consultation?

Forensic consultation can be helpful for attorneys who are working with complex clients and/or situations. VIDA clinicians are available as consultants to learn about the case/client, ask relevant questions, and provide specific recommendations for possible next steps.

We provide detail-oriented, culturally-sensitive evaluations, feedback sessions, and reports. Through our work, our goal is to fight stigma, decrease isolation, and increase knowledge and education in order to bring light to the importance of mental health.
